A digital LED badge is basically a tiny wearable screen. Instead of a fixed design, it shows whatever you send it from your phone: photos, text, QR codes, and animated GIFs. Here's how to get a GIF on yours and make it look good.
What you need
- A charged digital badge (for example the MoodPixel E92, E05 or Lanyard Edition)
- The badge's free companion app on iPhone or Android
- Bluetooth turned on
- The GIF saved to your phone's camera roll
Step 1: Charge the badge
Charge it fully before the first use. Transfers can fail if the battery is low.
Step 2: Install the app and pair
Download the companion app listed in your badge's manual (the E05 uses the free Zrun app). Open it, tap to add a device, and pair the badge over Bluetooth. Some badges pair by scanning a QR code on the screen.
Step 3: Pick your GIF
In the app, choose to upload an image or GIF and select it from your camera roll. The app shows a preview of how it will look on the round screen.
Step 4: Crop and send
Drag and zoom so the important part of the GIF sits in the center circle, then send it. A progress bar on the badge shows the transfer. Short GIFs usually take a few seconds.
Step 5: Lock the screen
On MoodPixel badges, hold the side button for about two seconds to lock the display so it doesn't change when someone bumps it.
Tips for GIFs that look great on a round screen
- Use a square GIF. MoodPixel badges use a 360 × 360 screen, so square artwork at that size looks sharpest.
- Keep the subject centered. The corners of a square image get cut off by the circle.
- Go bold. High-contrast colors and big shapes read better from across a room than fine detail.
- Keep it short. A loop of a few seconds looks smooth and transfers fast. For longer clips, the E92 and E05 also play video up to 15 seconds.
- Dark backgrounds save battery and make colors pop.
Troubleshooting
The badge won't connect: make sure Bluetooth is on, the badge is charged, and it isn't already connected to another phone. Close and reopen the app.
The GIF looks cropped: re-crop it in the app preview with the subject in the center.
The transfer is slow or fails: try a shorter or smaller GIF and keep your phone close to the badge.
